Those fancy stained glass billiard lights you see in displays or in rich-folks’ homes are definitely worth drooling over, but most of us are on a budget and trying to design on a dime, or even a penny! I thought it best to look for a cheaper option, something the average man could afford, and not get laughed at by his pool buddies. In my quest to find a cheap pool table light I came across a few companies with some potential. Apparently, “cheap” is a relative term, but these were the front runners, and pretty easy to find.

The first company I checked out was the most expensive. Pool Tables USA’s cheapest lights were of the 3-shade variety. Made of metal, glass, or blown glass, in varying colors and sophistication, these light fixtures were ‘on sale’ from $219 for simple brass and bland colored metal shades, up to $1,3990 for a monstrosity of cast iron scroll-work and weathered gold leaf accents. They made a big deal of visually slashing the ‘retail price’ and showing you your savings, but their site felt stark and aggressive. I might give them 3 stars, especially considering what I found on the other sites.

The second company, PoolDawg, had a bit of a cool-ghettos black & red theme. They offered a similar selection to the first site, but their pool table light pricing was much different. Comparing several, I found that PoolDawg had much lower prices (as low as $125 for a brass bar w/3 shades, up to $349 for a a Toledo w/cast iron and amber glass) , and they often were slashing ‘retail’ prices that matched up with PTUSA’s already-slashed ‘sale’ prices, making PTUSA seem a little fishy to me. I‘ll give 4 stars here for slightly better presentation and much better pricing.

Finally, I scrounged through Rockwell Billiards. These fellas hit about the middle of the road for pricing. Their ‘retail’ prices didn’t match up exactly with the other two sites, either, but they were closer to PoolDawg’s prices. Their ‘sales’ prices ran from $109.95 for a Premium 60 inch 3 shade Billiard lamp, up to $195 for a Polished Chrome Pool Table Light. They had less selection than the other two sites, but as a bonus, they did happen to offer both a “build it yourself” pool table light assembly kit, and individual shade assemblies that could be replacements or act as free-hanging pendant lights. I think they earned 3.75 stars for decent pricing and the added do-it-yourself stuff.

All 3 sites offered free shipping for any orders over $75, and I mention it because they sell other products, some of which sell for less than that.

Today I review some sports-themed pool table lighting. I’ll be talking about Nolan MLB lights, Gipper NFL lights, and NBA lights. I’ll go over pricing, specs, selections, and overall review.

I’ll begin with the Nolan MLB pool table light:

Retail priced as high as $698.00, but I found prices as low as $599.99. This is a nicely crafted antique textured stained glass pool table light, with silk-screened team logos and brass channels. This product is 100% American-made, and you can choose from 29 MLB teams.

Its overall dimensions are 40L x 16H inches, weighs about 37 pounds, and it comes with 3 feet of chain and 10 feet of cord. You’ll need 3 100-waat medium-base bulbs, which aren’t included.

From what we’ve seen, these lights are most appropriate for 8ft tables, which is a bit of a bummer since I personally enjoy playing on a tournament-standard 9ft table. They are classy and well-made, and I’m sure if I was a baseball fan, I’d be hard-pressed not to choose this style of light.

Next up, the Gipper NFL pool light:

Retail prices run about $599.99 – $698.00 like the MLB lights. Choose from all 32 NFL teams. These pool table lights are also antique textured stained glass with screen-printed logos and hand-assembled brass channels.

These shades, also, are only designed for pool tables no longer than 8 feet. But, they’re a great addition to a game room. I’m a big fan of football, and could definitely see a Patriots pool table light floating over my pool table!

Just like the MLB pool table lighting, these NFL lights are made in America, about 37lbs, 40Wx16H, come with 10ft of cord and 3ft of chain, and require three 60-watt bulbs.

Now finally, the NBA pool table light:

These lights are pricing out about $499.99 – $575.00. So they’re a smidge cheaper than the first two lights in this review. Everything else is about the same. Made with brass channels and %100 American-made, these billiard lights look just as classy as the other lights. They run 40L x 16H, come with 4.5ft of chain, and 10ft of cord, and require the standard three 60-watt bulbs.

Ok so there you have it. I found plenty of pros and very few cons to talk about here. The lamps themselves are beautiful, altough like I said before, they’ve limited themselves by manufacturing lights that are only long enough to properly light the short 8ft tables. The only other thing I didn’t like too much was the electric cord that runs through the chain. That cord is bright yellow and sticks out vibrantly. It’s a bit of an eye-sore, but an easy fix: you could probably cover the cord up with black electrical tape to make it less noticeable through the chains.

Assembly and Installation Instructions

All three of these products are shipped partially assembled. Assembly is easy and requires only common household tools. Furniture will be shipped with all necessary fasteners. Assembly is a matter of minutes with easy to follow instructions. Carefully read the instructions and acquaint yourself with the wood parts, bolts and screw sizes before starting assembly of your furniture.

Considering their design similarities, I give all of these pool table lighting fixtures 3.75 stars. Although they look great, I’m thinking they’re a bit on the pricey side, and I’m not sure I’d want to drop that much cash on them. Of course, my pockets are a bit thin these days…

Selecting the Proper Pool Table Lights

When you are selecting a pool table lights the main thing you need to keep in mind is the overall lighting scheme of your pool room. It’s really best to have most of your light focused on the pool table, and much less lighting surrounding its immediate vicinity, at least while the table is in use.
