Pasta in one way or another has captured the taste buds of almost everyone. They may come in different shapes, sizes and types but it is still the same food that everybody loves. Below is a quick guide to the different kinds of pasta available today.

One is the alternative grain pasta. This includes whole grain, spelt and quinoa pasta. Whole grain is a common type of pasta. Spelt is purely made of 100% spelt flour. And quinoa is one of the ancient grain-like pasta which closely resembles rice.

Another type of pasta is the durum semolina. This is a type of wheat-based pasta that is highly recommended for those who prefer pasta made of wheat. Just take note that this is high in gluten and the wheat used is the hard type. This type of pasta can be easily identified by looking at its color. Pastas with a rich ivory to yellow color are mostly of this type.

Egg noodles are the third pasta type. These are delicate pastas that can easily absorb any sauce. It is usually prepared using light sauces. Egg noodles are commonly used in many Chinese recipes.

The fourth type is gluten-free pasta. This type is made of brown rice, corn, quinoa, potato and soybeans. Although this is a relatively new type of pasta, many are using it for health purposes. Individuals with celiac disease who are gluten-sensitive use this as their pasta alternative.

Finally, whole wheat pasta is one of the most common types of pasta. This is a healthy alternative to traditional white pasta. It contains more fiber and tastes nutty. It also matches well with any pasta sauce.
