This review will be of the Melissa and Doug Standing Easel. What I would like to achieve with this great toy review is the informing of the potential customer to the stage where they can confidently decide whether this is the ideal toy for their child or if looking somewhere else might be the best idea. I will of course be looking at both the pros and cons to keep things as in perspective as I possibly can.
The first thing I will do is talk about the negatives. The biggest and clearest negative that I can think of is the chalkboard, which is very difficult to draw on. Small children would have a very difficult time making marks on this. There are a couple of options available to the concerned customer. You can get out your own sander and give the surface of the chalkboard a good sanding, or you can even ring up Melissa and Doug customer services and request that they send you a replacement board if you are unhappy with it. It might take a little persuasion, but they should provide you with a replacement for defective parts.
The Easel does come with small choking parts and because of this it is not best suited for children under the age of 3 years of age. The overall quality of the easel, chalkboard issues aside is very high, and the cost is comparatively very low. This means that even with small issues like that with the chalkboard it is one of the best children’s easels available to buy at the moment.
This toy doesn’t come with any paint or painting tools. And while this might seem like a negative to some, it is a actually a positive. The paint and accessory set that you can actually buy from Melissa and Doug leaves a lot to be desired and I am thrilled that it was not included with this as a bundle package or something.
