Nothing says classic design on a door better than a ceramic door knob. There are as many shapes, sizes and variations of different door handles as there are doors, but ceramic is something special. It stands for quality and style, and you can get your own pieces from manufacturers just about anywhere.

Door levers are more common in countries of the European Union than door knobs, but you can come across them in North America as well. It’s just not that ingrained in American architecture and interior design. Ceramic knobs are more common than lever mechanisms, though.

A great advantage of these knobs is that they can be fit to any home. They come from pure white porcelain to painted or with custom made designs, the choices are endless. Handles work better with classical or Victorian designs when they’re painted to elaborate pattern, simple ceramic knobs are good to go just about anywhere.

Looks are not everything, most customers consider the price, availability and durability as well. It’s no wonder kitchen knobs are often made of porcelain, they last longer than their metal counterparts because moisture can’t deteriorate the surface. They are scratch and dent resistant as well, but due to this hard and ungiving quality they break easily. If you drop something on them they will most certainly shatter. It must be said that this is a rather rare accident.

A normal knob can be bought for under $10 each in online stores, custom made handles and levers will part you with more money obviously. Kitchen cabinets and some appliances also have a porcelain knob on their doors. They’re resistant to heat, moisture and dirt can be easily wiped off. You don’t have to think about them unless one needs to be replaced, which can be done for as much as you’d expect to pay for a full size door knob.
